Kamaz 5490. A joint effort between Kamaz and Daimler Trucks

The first results of Mercedes’ cooperation with Kamaz were shown at an exhibition in 2011.
The new Kamaz 5490 used the cab of the Mercedes Axor; the alternative was a cab design offered by the Korean company DMEC, which specializes in advanced engineering. The new Russian-German Kamaz is expected to go on sale from the end of 2013.
Only the name remains the same; all parts are designed from scratch.
This is already the Kamaz of the 21st century. The 5490 series trucks will receive: – 420- to 500-hp diesels with common-rail technology – air conditioning tailored for harsh conditions – new electronics developed with Intel (including EBS and ESP) – cabin air suspension – air suspension (ECAS – Electronically Controlled Air Suspension) – multimedia system and, of course, modern styling, breaking with the brand’s past.
The new investments are estimated at $150 million; they will bring excellent driving economy and new safety standards in line with market trends.
Kamaz plans to sell 45,000 vehicles in 2013, including and latest 5490 models.
