Russian company Kamaz, subject to some of the strictest trade restrictions on the globe, is gradually expanding its product range, presenting more and more advanced models.
The latest example is the Atlant 50
, combining pre-war solutions from Germany and replacement components from China.
The Atlant 50 is a massive mining dumper, capable of operating in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius.
The vehicle is equipped with three drive axles, including a front axle with a load capacity of 20 tons and two rear axles of 27 tons each.
The total carrying capacity is thus 74 tons, of which about 49 tons is for cargo.
All of this is powered by a 13-liter engine with 560 horsepower, via a 7-speed hydraulic transmission, additionally equipped with a retarder.
The new Kamaz is primarily intended to be used in quarries.
That’s why it has been equipped with a self-dumping body with a capacity of 30 m3, with a floor heating system.
It also has a certified cab roof cover, mounted directly to the frame, which can be tilted to allow access to the engine.
In addition, a power line recognition system has been installed to warn of their presence and prevent damage.
As for the origin of the components, the cab is a low model of the Kamaz K5 series.
This means that it was taken from Mercedes Actros or Arocs, acquired by the Russians as part of pre-war cooperation.
Only the bumper was designed by Kamaz, specifically for quarry work.
The engine also came from the West, back before the sanctions, being a unit developed in cooperation with the German-Swiss Liebherr.
Nevertheless, after the sanctions, Kamaz made some modifications, using Russian and Chinese parts, especially in the area of attachments.
A hydraulic gearbox and all three drive axles, manufactured by HanDe Axle of Xian city, were supplied directly from China.
So, as you can see, although Kamaz is an important part of the Russian automotive industry, the Chinese, undeterred by the sanctions, began to supply them with really advanced technical solutions.
