With the L904 charger, we took part in a very prestigious competition – the Red Dot Design Award – an international competition in product design, communication design and design concepts.
The jury found that our LOCUST impresses first and foremost with its concise exterior design, high ease of operation and high durability, which contributes to the vehicle’s longevity.
The development process has also resulted in an entirely new, extremely well-thought-out machine concept that includes numerous innovations.
For example, the side masses are not only a distinctive design element, as they resemble the legs of the locust from which the machine takes its name, but also integrate important, easily accessible service points of the commercial vehicle.
And with that, they awarded us the most prestigious award possible – Red Dot Winner – best of the best.
Surprisingly affordable …
LOCUST is a skid-steer loader with a 40-year history that is highly versatile thanks to its extensive equipment, making it suitable for a variety of jobs in the city, on construction sites or on the farm – from street cleaning and cattle feed distribution to transporting straw bales or tree trunks.
The design of the new generation of the LOCUST skid steer loader was developed based on the results of an innovation audit, with customer convenience and technical material cutting and bending processes in mind.
Visually, this has resulted in a more attractive, highly distinctive vehicle design.
“Good use was made of small-batch production techniques: many of the exterior cladding components were folded from sheet metal and properly welded together to produce truly sophisticated shapes.
In addition, the vehicle’s main structural elements are not fabricated and welded together in simple rectangular shapes, but in sloping surfaces, which gives the design concept a high quality,” the jury said, highlighting the skillful use of materials.

With a combination of two doors, access to the engine compartment for maintenance work is also very spacious.
The cab can be easily opened thanks to a handle mounted on the upper end of the cab platform.
Inside, it impresses primarily with improved visibility, but also with a clear arrangement of controls and components, such as the infotainment system and rearview camera.
The jury concluded: “The LOCUST skid steer loader impresses with its concise exterior design, high ease of operation and high durability, which contributes to the longevity of the vehicle.”
